What is Original Art/Craft? By Gaius "Doc" Hanawalt - Woodland Woodturning I have opinions about everything, this is just one. It is my opinion that craft shows are in real trouble. I have been told by people coming into my booth several times this season that I am one of only a few that they believe are making their products. These were the patrons at the shows and were strangers to me. If the shoppers feel this way the shows are doomed. At the last show I did I saw a vendor selling injected plastic items. My dad worked for a company that did injection molding (Skinky's) and I worked for one that did also (DuPont). One thing you can trust me on is that nobody that does craft shows can afford to have a plastic injection mold in their home workshop. As I do better in Art shows and Galleries I am finding it difficult to keep up with demand and something had to give, I am only producing 12-14 segmented pieces a year. Because of this I have decided to drop all the craft shows and many of the craft type items I make. The time I gain will be used to make High end art pieces for galleries.
